Canberra Institute of Technology student association adopts Amazon's 'just walk out' tech
Cognizant has integrated Amazon's 'Just Walk Out' (JWO) technology at the Canberra Institute of Technology Student Association's (CITSA) on-campus store, Café Yala Plus, allowing students to have a contactless retail experience.
The rollout marks the first instance of an education provider implementing this technology in the Southern Hemisphere. The technology. Using this tech, students are enabled to enter the store, pick up what they need, and leave without having to queue or checkout.
CITSA appointed Cognizant for systems integration and payment support for the JWO technology. The technology is expected to benefit all CIT students, particularly those studying outside of regular business hours.
"Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology benefits all CIT students, especially those studying outside of regular business hours," CIT Student Association CEO, Andrew Scotford, stated. "Many students living on the CIT Bruce Campus lack easy access to nearby shopping. Cafe YalaPlus now offers convenient access to food, beverages, and other essential items."
The continued rollout of JWO technology in Australian education institutions represents a strategic growth opportunity for Cognizant.
"We are thrilled to have been selected by CITSA to deliver this technology to enhance the student shopping experience," said Rob Marchiori, head of Australia at Cognizant.
The solution is expected to reduce checkout friction, enhance the shopping experience, and streamline inventory management for the Student Association. The technology uses advanced AI like computer vision and deep learning to create a frictionless shopping experience.
"We congratulate the Canberra Institute of Technology Student Association on improving the on-campus student experience with the latest in checkout-free technology," Vice president of Just Walk Out technology at Amazon, Jon Jenkins, added.
