Paypal lays out plans to build new advertising platform

PayPal has made a number of new appointments as the fintech looks to implement its own commerce-rooted advertising platform that will incorporate PayPal's advanced offers platform and customer insights to build a personalised platform for improved advertising spend performance.

The PayPal Ads unit will be helmed globally by former Uber Advertising lead, Mark Grether and former Meta stalwart John Anderson, who will both report to EVP, General Manager, Consumer Group and Global Marketing & Communications, Diego Scotti.

"Commerce and advertising are deeply connected, and we believe that the advertising platform we are building at PayPal will become a must-use marketing channel for merchants big and small. I'm thrilled to have Mark join our team and lead this important work," said Scotti. "John brings strong experience in developing groundbreaking, personalised consumer experiences to PayPal, which will drive relevance of our brands, fuel our innovation pipeline, and give more reasons for consumers and merchants to choose PayPal."

Grether has been named as SVP, General Manager, PayPal Ads, while Anderson joins as SVP, General Manager, Consumer Group.

The new advertising platform is set to leverage PayPal's relationships with millions of consumers and merchants, with the aim of creating a commerce-rooted platform.
