Voting opens on Listeners Choice category for 2024 Australian podcast awards

The 2024 Australian Podcast Awards has unveiled its shortlist and opened voting for the Listener’s Choice category. The event, set to take place at Sofitel Sydney in Darling Harbour on November 21, recognises talent across 30 categories, including Podcast of the Year and Best New Podcast.

The awards ceremony will be hosted by media personalities Kate Langbroek and Nath Valvo, hosts of the iHeart podcast 'The Buck Up'. "We are very excited to host the Logies of podcasts and celebrate everyone. Will try our best to stick to the script but if it’s anything like our podcast we’re in for a long night. Sorry everybody," said Langbroek.

Established in 2016, the Australian Podcast Awards honour innovative and emerging voices in the podcast industry across a range of categories. This year’s shortlist includes The Churchhill Collective, Concealed with Art Simone, Unemployed and Afraid, and Grave Matters.

Editorial Lead of the Australian Podcast Awards, Adam Shepherd, said: "Australia is not just a participant in the global podcast scene—we’re leading the way with some of the most innovative and compelling content out there. We’re excited to celebrate both the industry’s emerging and prestigious talent and recognise those shaping the future of audio storytelling."

Head of Digital Audio at ARN’s iHeartPodcast Network Australia, Corey Layton, said: "The podcasting landscape in Australia has exploded, with creators delivering bold, diverse, and original content that’s making waves internationally. This year’s awards are a testament to the incredible talent we have across the country."

Global statistics from podcasting.com's 2024 report show that the number of global podcast listeners grew from 274.8 million in 2019 to 464.7 million in 2023, an increase of 69.10% in the past four years. The global podcasting market is projected to reach 130.63 billion by 2030. On average, podcast listeners spend around seven hours per week listening to podcasts on their favourite podcast app.

Voting for the Listeners Choice category will remain open until October 10.
