SBS scores weekly football show, CONMEBOL qualifiers ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026

SBS is set to launch a new weekly show, The Weekly Football Wrap, as the network gears up for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in 21 months time.

Following on from the success of The World Cup Daily show during Qatar 2022, the new program will be presented by returning host and football personality, Claudio 'Claudes' Fabiano, alongside a team of analysts and special guests. Starting 9 September 2024, The Weekly Football Wrap will air every monday at 10:20pm on SBS Viceland.

The show will be house in SBS On Demand's new dedicated Road to FIFA World Cup 2026 hub, which will feature all the action of the game, including live streams of matches, replays, mini matches, highlights, Classic World Cup finals, Classic Socceroos World Cup matches and more.

It will also be home to upcoming South American CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying matches, which SBS has secured the exclusive free-to-air rights to for key matches. The deal, which follows SBS securing exclusive broadcast rights to all 104 matches of FIFA World Cup 2026, will see the network bring 54 South American CONMEBOL qualifying matches to Australian audiences, as the national teams from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela face off.

SBS’s Director of Sport, Ken Shipp, said: "We’re incredibly excited to be the Australian home of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ and thrilled to bring these big South American qualifying matches to football fans in Australia, live and free on SBS." He added, "These matches offer audiences a chance to see live performances by some of the game's top players in full flight, including Messi, Neymar, and many more. It really will be top-tier football."

The FIFA World Cup 2026™ will be held in 16 cities across Canada, Mexico and the United States, from 11 June to 19 July, 2026. All 104 games of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ will be live, free and exclusive to SBS, SBS VICELAND and SBS On Demand.

"Claudio Fabiano's passion for football is infectious, and we're excited to have him host The Weekly Football Wrap. This show is all about connecting with football fans and building buzz and excitement leading into World Cup 2026™. Claudio and his team of collaborators, bring an energy and expertise that will resonate with fans, making this the must-watch football show as we head toward SBS’s coverage of the world’s biggest sporting event," said Shipp.
