Aussies' most searched personal goals revealed: Health trumps career
A new study conducted by CPR First Aid, a leading provider of first aid and CPR courses, has revealed the most Googled personal goals in each region of Australia.
The study analysed Google search volumes of 65 top-trending keywords related to personal goals throughout the summer. The data covered eight months’ worth of search volumes for November, December, January and February of 2022 and 2023.
The study found the most Googled personal goal in Australia is losing weight, followed by healthy eating and drinking more water. These goals were consistent across every state and territory in the country. On average, 'losing weight' was searched 365,360 times per month during the summer months. 'Healthy eating' came in second with an average of 192,590 searches per month, while 'drinking more water' had an average of 165,050 monthly searches.
Other personal goals that made the list include stopping snoring, quitting smoking, developing a career path, stopping drinking, getting better sleep, stopping overthinking, and budgeting. The study found regional variations in the popularity of these goals. For instance, Western Australia showed a 72% higher interest in developing their careers than the average Aussie. Residents of the Australian Capital Territory were most concerned about drinking water. Northern Australia showed the highest desire to curb its alcohol intake and sleep better than anyone else in Australia. Tasmanians want to stop snoring 22.2% more than other Aussies, and people in New South Wales are especially worried about overthinking.
"We aimed to cover as wide a range of personal goals as possible, from jobs and mental health to addictions and lifestyle habits like procrastination and biting nails. We were very surprised that all the top five goals Aussies aim for are entirely health-related. Being healthy seems more important to us than our career trajectories, for instance, and that speaks volumes about our priorities as a society," said a spokesperson for CPR First Aid.
