Vox Media hands content archives to OpenAI in new partnership

Vox Media is the latest major publishing business hand over its content to ChatGTP creator OpenAI, in a new deal that will see the two companies collaborate on a series of new AI-supported products for the media company's consumers and advertisers.

As [art of the deal, OpenAI's models will gain access to editorial archives across Vox Media's portfolio of properties, which includes Vox, The Verge, Eater, New York Magazine, The Cut, Vulture, and SB Nation.

Vox Media will work with OpenAI to build audience-facing and internal applications and capabilities, including recommendations and information for consumers. The partnership will also use OpenAI's technology to expand Vox Media's first-party data platform, Forte.

Advertisers are expected to benefit from the OpenAI partnership through stronger creative optimisation and audience segment targeting, leading to higher campaign performance. Vox Media will continue to enhance its affiliate commerce product, The Strategist Gift Scout, using OpenAI tools.

"We're thrilled to partner with OpenAI. This agreement aligns with our goals of leveraging generative AI to innovate for our audiences and customers, protect and grow the value of our work and intellectual property, and boost productivity and discoverability to elevate the talent and creativity of our exceptional journalists and creators," said co-founder, chair and CEO of Vox Media, Jim Bankoff.

President of Vox Media, Pam Wasserstein, said: "As the media and technology landscapes change, it's vital that accurate, trustworthy information reaches the public, and this partnership recognises that human creativity and quality journalism are a key part of responsible deployment of generative AI."
