Cosmopolitan magazine set for Australian comeback in 2024
Six years after its 2018 closure by Bauer Media, women's lifestyle magazine Cosmopolitan has become the latest magazine title to be revived in the Australian market, with a relaunch slated for August of this year.
The omnichannel relaunch is spearheaded by Katarina Kroslakova's independent publishing house KK Press, in collaboration with Hearst Magazines International. It comes hot on the heels of Are Media's relaunch of fashion title ELLE Australia in March.
The new Cosmopolitan Australia will feature six print edition each year, as well as digital assets, including an online site and social media presence.
"Cosmopolitan Australia's vision is clear: to uplift, empower, and champion women while having an absolute blast doing it. We're dedicated to delivering thought-provoking, insightful journalism and entertainment that resonates with young women nationwide", said Kroslakova, who is currently in the process of putting together an editorial team.
"While embracing digital and social media, print also offers a unique and complementary opportunity for longform storytelling, providing in-depth exploration, escapism and a tactile experience, which is particularly appealing to Gen Z and young millennial readers who are seeking a break from constant connectivity", Kroslakova said.
The relaunch is backed by Hearst Magazines, the global lifestyle publisher behind last year's the digital resurrection of the Men's Health Australia and Women's Health Australia under a multi-year licensing agreement with Switzer Media Group.
"The relaunch of Cosmopolitan Australia marks an exciting next chapter for this iconic brand, while reinforcing our commitment to delivering culturally relevant content to audiences around the globe," said senior vice president of editorial and brand director of Hearst Magazines International, Kim St. Clair Bodden. "We are delighted to partner with KK Press as we reconnect and engage with millions of authentic and bold young women in this important market."
KK Press has previously launched T Magazine: New York Times Style Magazine in Australia, of which Kroslakova is the publisher and editor-in-chief.
