JOLT's electric surge: Expanding EV charging network in Sydney
JOLT, Australia's pioneering network of free, fast electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, is set to expand its footprint in Sydney.
In a strategic partnership with Transport for NSW, JOLT plans to roll out its first EV chargers in Greater Sydney, marking a significant step in the company's mission to reduce barriers to EV ownership.
The chargers will be strategically located at commuter car parks and other transport assets, with plans to roll out more than 100 digital out-of-home screens within the next year. This move is expected to connect with EV drivers and commuters around transport hubs, leveraging Transport for NSW's network that recorded over 53 million journeys in October 2023.
"JOLT chargers are located in key metropolitan areas to help in our mission to reduce barriers to EV ownership and to provide advertisers with even more opportunities to connect with valuable metro transiting audiences," JOLT CEO, Doug McNamee, said.
The company's network usage in Australia has seen a staggering 602% increase in the past 12 months, with commitment from advertisers almost tripling year on year. This growth is reflective of the rising trend in EV registrations, which have surged more than 150% on average across NSW in the last year.
JOLT Head of Sales and Platforms, Michael Selden, said, 'JOLT and Transport for NSW’s agreement propels our digital out-of-home network forward, delivering further scale and frequency.'
Brittany Crowley, Co-Head of Investment, Sydney at PHD Australia, a partner media agency of JOLT, echoed this sentiment. "This is an exciting opportunity for advertisers to align with high traffic urban assets in the Greater Sydney area."
JOLT is not only expanding locally but also has its sights set on international markets. The company recently partnered with Canadian operator TELUS to roll out 5,000 EV chargers across Canada and thousands of chargers in the UK.
In addition to providing free, fast charging for Australian EV drivers, JOLT claims to be the first media company to generate transport-related carbon credits for businesses. It says these credits are verified by several organisations, including United Nations Sustainable Development (UNSD), ClimateActive, Sustainable Development Verified Impact Standard (SD VISTA), Verified Carbon Standard (VM0038), and GreenPower accredited.
