Kayo Sports claims game-changing tech for 'Summer of Cricket' broadcasts
Kayo Sports is set to introduce a suite of new on-screen tech innovations for its 'Summer of Cricket' broadcasts. The innovations will be unveiled during the Australia-India Test series starting on Friday 22 November, broadcast in 4K ultra high definition. Catering to Indian fans, a Hindi feed will also be added to Kayo Sports.
The new technologies, claimed to be a first in cricket broadcasting, aim to provide a richer viewing experience by capturing every moment of the game from different angles. The innovations include HyperLayer, an AI-powered, cloud-based sports data and technology platform developed by Virtual Eye. It uses six cameras tracking at 250 frames per second to capture every phase of the ball's journey. HyperLayer produces 810,000 frames of data daily, providing unprecedented levels of detail and analytical depth.
The Emperor, a 600 frame-per-second ultra motion camera, will be used for ball tracking, player tracking, pose estimation and replay systems. For the first time in cricket, 4D replays, powered by a network of 100 cameras around the stadium, will be introduced. These replays can be explored and interacted with on additional screens via a new companion device on the Kayo Sports platform.
Fox Cricket will manage broadcast graphics production in-house for the first time, leveraging the expertise of Fox Sports' graphics department. Every ball of the Border-Gavaskar Test series will be available live and in 4K on Kayo Sports and Foxtel. The announcement was made at Fox Cricket's Big Hit fan event in Melbourne.
Steve Crawley, Managing Director of Fox Sports, expressed his anticipation for the upcoming series. "We can’t wait for the Australia-India Test to kick off. As the top two teams in Test Cricket, it is set to be a great contest and audiences can expect more analysis, more innovation and more action from the series on Fox Cricket. A world-class commentary team, game changing tech - this ‘Summer of Cricket’ is set to be our biggest one yet," he said.
