Oracle debuts new partnerships with Google Cloud and OpenAI

Oracle has integrated its Oracle Cloud Infrastructure with Google Cloud, enabling users to move between the technologies more seamlessly.

It is one of two new partnerships announced by the cloud-based software as a service company (SaaS), which has also struck up a deal with ChatGTP's parent company OpenAI and Microsoft to expand Microsoft Azure - the cloud platform through which developers and data scientists can quickly build and deploy AI models.

The Google partnership will allow customers to combine OCI and Google Cloud technologies to accelerate their application migrations and modernisation. Oracle will operate and manage Oracle database services directly within Google Cloud data centres globally, beginning with North America and Europe regions.

Google Cloud’s Cross-Cloud Interconnect will initially be available for customer onboarding in 11 global regions, with no cross-cloud data transfer charges.

Later this year, a new offering, Oracle Database@Google Cloud, will be available with the highest level of Oracle database and network performance, along with feature and pricing parity with OCI. Both companies will jointly go-to-market with Oracle Database@Google Cloud, targeting enterprises globally and across multiple industries, including financial services, healthcare, retail, manufacturing, and more.

Oracle Chairman and CTO, Larry Ellison, said: “Customers want the flexibility to use multiple clouds. To meet this growing demand, Google and Oracle are seamlessly connecting Google Cloud services with the very latest Oracle Database technology. By putting Oracle Cloud Infrastructure hardware in Google Cloud datacenters, customers can benefit from the best possible database and network performance."

CEO of Google and Alphabet, Sundar Pichai, said: “Oracle and Google Cloud have many joint enterprise customers. This new partnership will help these customers use Oracle database and applications in concert with Google Cloud’s innovative platform and AI capabilities.”

Meanwhile, Oracle’s partnership with Microsoft and OpenAI will extend the Microsoft Azure AI platform to OCI to provide additional capacity for OpenAI. OpenAI joins thousands of AI innovators across industries worldwide that run their AI workloads on OCI AI infrastructure.

OCI’s AI infrastructure is already used by the likes of Adept, Modal, Mosaic ML, NVIDIA, Reka, Suno, Together AI, Twelve Labs and xAI to train and inference next-generation AI models. OCI’s purpose-built AI capabilities enable startups and enterprises to build and train models faster and more reliably anywhere in Oracle’s distributed cloud.

Chief Executive Officer, OpenAI, Sam Altman, said: “We are delighted to be working with Microsoft and Oracle. OCI will extend Azure’s platform and enable OpenAI to continue to scale.”

Ellison said: “The race to build the world’s greatest large language model is on, and it is fuelling unlimited demand for Oracle’s Gen2 AI infrastructure. Leaders like OpenAI are choosing OCI because it is the world’s fastest and most cost-effective AI infrastructure.”
