4.9 million tune in for Warner's farewell test game during Seven Network's cricket coverage
The third test match in the Australian cricket team's clean Test series sweep against Pakistan, which served as a farewell game for renowned cricketer David Warner, reached an impressive 4.9 million people nationally.
The third Test on Seven not only had an average broadcast audience of 644,000 but also ranked #1 in its timeslots across all demographics, including 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s. Warner was seen to sign off in style with a batting masterclass on Day Four, farewelling Test cricket with a half-century in his final innings and helping Australia to within 11 runs of victory.
Seven said the largest audience was recorded during the third session on Day 1, with an average audience of 897,000 nationally and an audience reach of 1.9 million. The full series, broadcast live by Seven Network, averaged a daily peak audience of 1.1 million.
"This New Year’s Test had it all, capped off with a dream farewell for one of the greatest opening batsmen Test cricket has ever seen," Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin, commented.
The Test match also had a philanthropic angle, with the 16th annual Pink Test event raising $6.44 million for the McGrath Foundation. A total of 322,000 virtual seats were purchased, demonstrating the public's willingness to support charitable causes alongside their love for cricket.
The live and free cricket action continues, with Brisbane Heat facing the Hobart Hurricanes followed by Big Bash games every weeknight this week as the competition edges closer to finals. Looking ahead, Seven's cricket broadcast team is set to cover the first of two Tests between Australia and the West Indies at Adelaide Oval from 14 January, a match that continues a test rivalry dating back to 1930.
