Deputy celebrates shift workers via 'Clock Out 2024' initiative

Global hourly work platform, Deputy, is rolling out 'Clock Out 2024' to help shift workers to share their 2024 shifts and showcase the impact of their work on social media.

Now in its second year, the initiative will see every participant receive a personalised message of gratitude, acknowledging their dedication to the communities they serve.

It comes ahead of the app's celebration of Shift Worker Sunday on 24 November. The annual initiative honours shift workers who fuel essential services across Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

In the lead up to Shift Worker Sunday Deputy is hosting a unique activation in Martin Place, Sydney, on Friday, November 22nd, between 11am and 3pm. The team will be giving away Gelato Messina in exchange for Gratitude, encouraging attendees to write a thank-you note to a shift worker in their life in exchange for a sweet scoop. These notes of gratitude will be digitised and published on the Shift Worker Sunday website.

"Shift Worker Sunday is a chance to highlight the crucial contributions of shift workers,” said Deputy CEO, Silvija Martincevic. “These workers keep our communities moving forward every day, often with little public recognition. "With our in-app experience - Clock Out 2024, we’re providing shift workers with the opportunity to showcase their impact while also creating a moment of reflection for all of us to appreciate the dedication and sacrifices that go unseen. Our goal is to foster a broader culture of gratitude and respect for those who work tirelessly behind the scenes, and we invite everyone to join us in celebrating these essential contributors.”

According to Deputy's recent State of Hourly Work Survey, only 33% of U.S. shift workers, 31% in the U.K., and 35% in Australia feel that the public often acknowledges their work. Employer recognition is slightly higher, with 46% in the U.K. and U.S. and 45% in Australia reporting that their employers frequently show appreciation.

“Shift workers are the backbone of our economy, and their contributions will be more critical than ever during the holiday season. Their work sustains the infrastructure that keeps our lives and businesses functioning, and it’s essential to recognise their role in maintaining the stability of our communities and economies," said Martincevic.

"At Deputy, we believe supporting shift workers goes beyond seasonal recognition. It’s about providing them with predictable hours, fair wages, and opportunities for growth throughout the year. I encourage business owners and leaders, especially those who employ hourly workers, to join us and pledge to commit to meaningful actions that make a real difference for this essential workforce.”

The 'Clock Out 2024' experience went live this week to the 1.4 million hourly workers across the Deputy platform.

Senior Director of Brand Strategy and Digital Experience, Dom Newman, said: “We're excited to see both Deputy customers, partners, and shift workers join us in Martin Place for this event. This is our way of showing that recognition can be meaningful, fun, and community-driven. Gratitude has the power to brighten someone's day, and this activation allows us to publicly acknowledge the hard work and dedication of shift workers in a tangible way.”
