Seven's leadership shakeup continues; Sean Power replaces Neil Warren as Sydney Director of News

Seven's newly minted news and current affairs boss Anthony De Ceglie has informed staff of further changes to the network's leadership, with Sydney Director of News Neil Warren the latest in a string of recent exits.

De Ceglie, who stepped into a joint role as Seven Network's Director of News and Current Affairs and Seven West Media Editor-in-Chief in April, advised staff that Sean Power would be stepping into vacated role.

Warren has spent 32 years at Seven in various roles including journalist, bureau chief, executive producer, and news director. His exit was attributed to 'family reasons'.

Power currently serves as the Executive Producer of breakfast program Sunrise, under the leadership of Seven's Director of Morning Television, Sarah Stinson.

Under Power's stewardship, Sunrise maintained a consistent streak in weekly ratings, reaching over two million Australians every week.

"Sean’s time at Sunrise has been marked by incredible success and creativity. I can’t wait to see what he will bring to the all-important 6pm news bulletin. His appointment is part of ensuring that Seven has next-generational leaders in place ready for the future," said De Ceglie.

Power's move to the news director role will also trigger changes in the Sunrise team. Jake Lyle, the current Supervising Producer, will step into the role of Sunrise Executive Producer, vacated by Power. In addition, Holly Fallon, an experienced broadcast and print journalist, has been recently appointed as Executive Producer of Weekend Sunrise.

"The opportunity to lead the 7NEWS Sydney team in this next chapter is incredibly exciting. We have the best journalists, producers, cameramen and editors in the country, in a new state-of-the-art studio and newsroom, and we will continue to put our audience first when telling the stories that matter most to Sydney. It’s certainly not goodbye to Brekky Central. We’ll continue working closely with the team, breaking stories from Sunrise to sunset," Power said.

Warren, who has been a significant part of Seven's success, will remain with the team for some time to support the Sydney news team through the transition period and help steer Seven’s news coverage of the Olympic Games.

"I'm extremely appreciative of all the opportunities and memories the network has provided me over many decades. Seven has been like a big family to me. But I know this is the right decision and now it’s time to give back to my own family in Queensland," Warren said.

It comes amid a stream of recent exits at the media business, with Melbourne News Director Sean Menegola stepping down last month for 'personal reasons', replaced by 7NEWS Adelaide News Director, Chris Salter. Meanwhile, Gemma Williams was appointed as Executive Producer of 7NEWS Spotlight following the controversial exit of Mark Llewellyn.

Earlier this week Seven elevated Finance Editor Gemma Acton into a new role as Director of News Operations, reporting to De Ceglie.
