Google head of brand, social, YouTube marketing Zoe Hayes departs after 6-year tenure

Google's head of brand, social, and YouTube marketing in ANZ, Zoe Hayes, has left the company after a six-year stint to pursue new professional opportunities.

In a LinkedIn post, the seasoned Googler said exiting the search and tech giant was the latest leap in a series of bold professional moves she has made thus far.

"Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of a successful series of these big jumps: relocating across countries, switching from agency-side to client-side, traversing various industries from banks to fashion, cars to charities, vitamins to red meat, undies to tech. And now, it's time for a new and exciting adventure," Hayes said.

"I've loved the opportunity to lead remarkable people and teams to drive results across a broad spectrum of products and partnerships inc. Pixel, Nest, Search, Masterbrand, AFL, The Google App, Chromebooks, Android, Google TV, and YouTube. The industry recognition of the work is a testament to our collective efforts."

A Google spokesperson confirmed Hayes' departure and said arrangements had been made internally for coverage of these areas of marketing.

Hayes joined Google initially as head of hardware marketing in mid-2018 before rising to head of B2C marketing, apps and platforms, then head of B2C marketing, consumer apps and sports partnerships.

Prior to this, she was head of marketing for the Berlei brand at Hanes Australia, a return to the clothing manufacturer after a previous stint in brand and marketing roles across the Bonds brand. She started her career agency side with The Campaign Palace as an account manager, before freelancing for agencies such as BMF and Clemenger BBDO.

As to next professional steps, Hayes said she was hoping to find a role building brands through a mix of creativity and people power.

Among Hayes' recent marketing efforts was Google's 'The Invisible Forest', a technology collaboration with CSIRO, the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies and The Nature Conservancy under the Google Digital Future Initiative and undertaken in partnership with Emotive. The project saw Google AI employed to speed up the data analytics required to decode the DNA of the surviving heat-resilient kelp in the Great Southern Reef in Tasmania and map the remaining forests for the first time to support restoration efforts.
