The Australian marks 60 years: Qantas, Harvey Norman, Hancock Prospecting, Commbank, Ampol, Woodside partner

The Australian newspaper is set to commemorate its 60th anniversary with a series of celebrations, backed by six major Australian companies. Qantas, Harvey Norman, Hancock Prospecting, CommBank, Ampol, and Woodside have all pledged their support for the milestone event.

The newspaper, first published by Rupert Murdoch on July 15, 1964, is currently the most-read national newspaper in Australia, boasting 4.091 million readers across its print and digital platforms.

To mark the occasion, The Australian will publish a special editorial series, 'Six Decades in Six Weeks', which will highlight major news stories, cultural and lifestyle events, business and sporting achievements, and memorable pictures and cartoons from the past 60 years. On July 13, a special glossy 104-page 60th Anniversary Collector’s Edition magazine will be published, featuring the most influential people of the past 60 years. The special magazine is supported by Rolex, Omega, Viking Cruises, Abercrombie & Kent, and Bolton Clarke among others.

"Today, we reach more Australians than ever before, across more platforms than we ever thought possible in 1964. Our audience is invested, engaged and determined to help build a better Australia. Our subscribers play a critical role in our commitment to serve the country into the future," said Michelle Gunn, Editor-In-Chief of The Australian.

The anniversary celebrations will also include a gala black-tie event on July 25 and a comprehensive consumer marketing campaign across print, digital, social, radio, television, and outdoor platforms.

"We are thrilled to partner with some of Australia's most iconic brands, some of which have been with us since those early years and have helped to shape the nation," said John Lehmann, Managing Director of The Australian.

The Australian's 60th anniversary celebrations not only mark a significant milestone for the newspaper but also highlight its enduring influence and reach in the Australian media landscape.
