Seven rejigs sports team amid restructure, names Chris Jones as Director of Network Sport

Seven West Media has appointed Chris Jones as Director of Network Sport following wide spread cuts at the media conglomerate that saw to the exit of Head of Sport and MD of Seven Melbourne, Lewis Martin.

Previously Executive Producer of Seven's cricket coverage, Jones will now take the helm of 7SPORT, reporting directly to newly appointed Chief Content Officer, Brooke Hall.

"Sport is part of Seven's DNA and a key reason why we are the most-watched television and digital network. We have a long and proud history of bringing the best local and international sport to all Australians for free. Chris has been an integral part of our sport team for many years, producing some amazing moments and iconic content. I can't think of anyone better to lead our sport coverage," said Hall.

Jones first joined Seven as a junior reporter in 2000, and has since worked on AFL, cricket, summer and winter Olympics, US Masters, Australian Open tennis, Australian Open golf and more. During that time he has also spent stints at Nine Network and Thrive PR.

He will lead a team that includes Gary O'Keeffe, who has been promoted from AFL Executive Producer into the new role of Head of AFL and Sport Innovation; Andrew Hore-Lacy, who is elevated from horse racing Executive Producer to Head of Horse Racing; Kirsty Bradmore, who steps up from motor sport Executive Producer to Head of Sport Digital; and Joel Starcevic, formerly a cricket and horse racing Producer, who will become Head of Cricket.

"We have assembled a trusted and energetic leadership team who love their sport and will continue to innovate. I feel privileged to have worked with and learnt from some of the best in the business and now alongside our entire 7SPORT team, I can't wait to evolve our coverage. We are on the eve of an exciting new era here at Seven with the addition of digital rights for both footy and cricket. This means every single Australian will have access to live and free coverage via 7plus and broadcast. Can't wait to get stuck in," said Jones.

Seven West Media last week confirmed that the company would be making 100-150 redundancies to make way for a new operating model. The cuts have seen the exits of multiple high profile executives including Lewis Martin, as well as Chief Revenue Officer Kurt Burnette, Chief Marketing Officer Mel Hopkins and Director of Digital Marketing and Innovation, Lucio Ribeiro, amongst others.

The restructure has seen a significant reshuffling of responsibilities, with Seven's operations now split into three divisions: Television, digital, and Western Australia, helmed by Angus Ross, Gereurd Roberts, and Maryna Fewster, respectively.
