Esports World Cup breaks records with $60m prize pool

The inaugural Esports World Cup is set to take place this summer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with a record-breaking total prize pool of over $60 million. This figure surpasses the previous record of $45 million set by Gamers8 in 2023, making it the largest prize pool ever awarded in esports history.

The event is organised by the Esports World Cup Foundation, a non-profit organisation led by Ralf Reichert, the founder of ESL. The Esports World Cup will feature 20 distinct tournaments across 19 competitive titles, with more to be announced throughout its eight-week schedule.

The Club Championship, a unique cross-game competitive format, will award $20 million to the top 16 Clubs based on their overall performance. The remaining prize pool will be divided into three additional distribution categories: Game Championships, Player Bounties, and Qualifiers.

The 19 participating titles include Apex Legends, Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, EA Sports FC 24, Fortnite, Free Fire, Honor of Kings, League of Legends, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Overwatch 2, PUBG Battlegrounds, PUBG MOBILE, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, RENNSPORT, Rocket League, StarCraft II, Street Fighter 6, Teamfight Tactics, and TEKKEN 8.

In addition to the competitive tournaments, the Esports World Cup will also feature a festival with gaming activations, community tournaments, pop culture celebrations, international experiences, and more.

The games industry is set to surpass $200 billion in value and has become the leading global entertainment sector, with over three billion players worldwide.
