SBS's Tour de France coverage draws record viewership

SBS's broadcast of the 2024 Tour de France attracted more than 5.7 million viewers, including over 1.8 million Australians aged 25-54. The event also drew strong live streaming audiences to SBS On Demand, with 26% of viewers watching the race action live. Over 57 million hours of Tour de France coverage has been consumed across SBS TV and SBS On Demand.

SBS Director of Sport, Ken Shipp, praised the coverage and the performance of the SBS team. "This was our best coverage of the Tour de France yet, as proven by the incredible audience results we've seen. I'm proud of our excellent SBS team, both on camera and behind the scenes, for delivering consistently first-class coverage that captured all the stories, exhilarating moments and that tremendous performance by Tadej Pogačar," said Shipp.

SBS's social media channels also saw high engagement with Tour de France content, attributed to having a dedicated producer at the event for the first time. "Consumption of TDF content on our SBS social media channels in particular was sensational, with huge results from having a dedicated producer at the event for the first time," Shipp added.

Audience testimonials praised the coverage and the commentary team. The reach for the live coverage of the final stages ranged from 311,000 to 892,000 viewers, indicating a strong interest in the event's climax.
