Pedestrian TV captures Gen Z audiences, racks up 43 million streaming minutes since October launch
Pedestrian Television has reported a total of 43 million streaming minutes since its launch in late October, according to figures from OzTam.
The TV channel of youth-centred publisher, Pedestrian Group, Pedestrian TV has attributed its success to a fresh programming slate, experimental marketing, and innovative programming choices. 51% of the audience falls within the 18-39 age bracket.
The channel's success is also boosted by official festival partnerships with Spilt Milk and Lost Paradise, which placed the brand in front of over 130,000 young punters over the summer. The channel also maintains an ongoing partnership with Australian Independent Record labels (AIR), featuring artists like PNAU, Rudimental, and The XX's Romy in original series like 'Shooting Stars' and 'Kick Ons TV'.
The channel's most high-performing series is 'Roasted On', a local comedy via web comedy collective Robot Army. The channel's web series 'Internment', 'My First Time', and 'Tales From 88' aim to emulate the success of 'Roasted On'.
For Gen Z females, TV-nostalgia is defined by what they watched in high school, as proven by April's audience surge for 'The OC' and 'Pretty Little Liars'. The live channel spike for 1992's 'Single White Female' shows the discovery of older titles via Pedestrian Group's brand network, including VICE, PEDSTRIAN.TV, and Refinery29.
Weekend marathons have been a hit with the second-screen audience.
