Doordash and Biopak join forces to support sustainable packaging for Australian merchants

Food delivery giant DoorDash and sustainable packaging provider BioPak have partnered to create an online shopping portal where restaurants and cafes can access exclusive pricing on sustainable packaging product.

The initiative has been developed in support of South Australian (SA) and Western Australian (WA) merchants impacted by single-use plastic bans and forms part of DoorDash's broader sustainability goal to combat waste by helping local businesses adopt reusable, recyclable, and compostable packaging.

In addition to the online portal, DoorDash has also announced the availability of its Red Bags for partners in SA and WA, where single-use plastics are being phased out.

"By providing merchants with sustainable packaging, including red bags and compostable containers, we continue to support their environmental goals while also aligning with broader initiatives to reduce plastic waste across the country," said General Manager, DoorDash Australia, Puji Fernando.

In 2023, DoorDash, with the help of restaurant partners, diverted 133,971 kg of plastic waste from landfills. BioPak, a leading sustainable packaging provider operating in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, the UK and Europe, shares a similar mission to create a world without waste, focusing on environmentally friendly product design from raw material to disposal.

"The partnership with DoorDash is an important step in our fight to achieve a Zero Waste future. At BioPak, we're committed to disrupting the traditional packaging model and creating compostable solutions that can be adopted by businesses across Australia and APAC, changing consumer behaviours to adopt only circular economy solutions," said CEO, BioPak, Gary Smith.

BioPak is a certified B Corp, and its plant-based, compostable packaging is designed to help DoorDash merchants reduce waste and adhere to sustainability standards.
