A23 appoints Natalie Legg as CEO in move towards diversity and growth

Canberra-based systems integrator A23 has announced a significant leadership shake-up, appointing Natalie Legg as CEO. The move sees former CEO Simon Metcalfe transition to the role of Chief Growth Officer, as part of a strategic plan to drive business expansion beyond Canberra.

Legg, a proud Kamilaroi woman from North Western NSW, has been with A23 since its inception seven years ago. The company, started by a group of 11 friends and colleagues, now has nearly 60 staff members and generates annual revenues of close to $30 million. A23 has also secured several major Federal Government clients.

The leadership change is not just about business growth, but also about championing diversity in the IT sector. Legg has expressed her intention to increase diversity within A23, with a particular focus on employing more women and individuals from non-English speaking backgrounds.

"At a macro level I want us to grow, to grow beyond Canberra with more private sector clients. At a cultural level, I want to lead a company with clear communications and positive culture. And I hope we can continue to be an employer of choice, championing diversity with more women and diverse cultural backgrounds," said Legg.

Metcalfe echoed these sentiments, stating, "Having a First Nations woman move into this role really represents something for the company, it’s about advancing opportunities. This is an industry dominated by men, especially in senior leadership, that should change, and this reflects that. It is a chance to lead by example."

A23 has set ambitious targets, aiming for 75% growth over the next three years. The company plans to expand further into Sydney and Brisbane, and diversify its offerings beyond government work.

A23 chair Dean Taylor has expressed his support for the leadership change, stating it allows Natalie and Simon to "focus on their areas of passion."
