Good Weekend serves up special Tennis magazine, amplifying Nine's Grand Slam coverage
As Australia gears up for the 2024 Summer of Tennis, Good Weekend is set to publish a special edition magazine titled 'Tennis'.
The magazine, which will be available through The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald on Saturday, 13 January, will also feature online across these mastheads, as well as the Brisbane Times and WAtoday.
"We’re delighted to bring the journalistic rigour and writing chops that Good Weekend is renowned for to the sport that dominates our psyche in the second half of January," Good Weekend editor Katrina Strickland put it.
The magazine will profile well-known elite athletes, including 24-year-old Alex de Minaur, the first Australian male to break into the Top 10 since Lleyton Hewitt. In addition, there will be spotlight stories transcending the court, such as a focus on Ukrainian player Elina Svitolina, who uses her platform in the sport to highlight the struggles of her war-torn country. Another story will delve into the new breed of Grand Slam mums, led by returning star Naomi Osaka, while a third provides a catch-up with Ash Barty in Toowoomba. A quiz and recipes are also being included.
Jo Clasby, Nine’s Director of Sales - Publishing, highlighted the opportunities the Tennis magazine provides for brand exposure and reinforcing the company's position as the official broadcaster of the Australian Open through to 2029.
"We are thrilled with the extension of our partnership into a print insert in The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, as well as for online readers of those mastheads together with BrisbaneTimes and WAtoday. After receiving such positive feedback about last year’s inaugural edition, we’re looking forward to many years of brand opportunities that the Tennis magazine will provide," she said.
Good Weekend’s regular Saturday magazine will resume publication on January 27.
