Samsung Australian IT Journalism Awards introduce new Science category
The Samsung Australian IT Journalism Awards have introduced a new category, the Award for Best Science Journalist, as part of a formal partnership with the Science Journalists Association of Australia (SJAA). The partnership includes community support through Influencing.com and a grant to back the SJAA's Champion of Science Journalism program. The goal of the partnership and new award is to foster science journalism and communication in Australia.
Influencing CEO and Lizzies Master of Ceremonies, Phil Sim, stated, "Influencing was founded for the technology journalism community, because we believe expert, specialist journalism is required to help society navigate the complex changes being thrust upon us by innovation. So it's a natural extension to also support the science writing community by acknowledging and celebrating the best of Australia's outstanding Science writing across 2024."
The SJAA will collaborate with Influencing to facilitate the Science Journalism Award at the 2025 IT Journalism Awards, providing judging support, advice, and promotion. SJAA President and 2022's Australian Tech Journalist of the year, Jackson Ryan, expressed support for the new science award and its role in setting the standard of excellence.
The 2025 IT Journalism Awards will take place on Friday, March 28th, 2025 at Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf Sydney. Now in their 23rd year, the Samsung Australian IT Journalism Awards are supported by industry sponsors.
