Slack's global survey unveils workplace personas and AI adoption concerns

Slack has conducted a global survey, identifying five distinct workplace personalities while also revealing a growing concern about the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the workplace.

The survey, conducted in partnership with YouGov, involved over 15,000 desk workers across various sectors and countries, including over 1,000 Australians. The survey identified five distinct workplace personas: The Detective, The Networker, The Road Warrior, The Problem Solver, and The Expressionist.

Voted highest at 31%, the Detective is always in the know, seeking solutions and answers through their natural curiosity.

In second place at 25%, the Networker serves as the social butterfly of the workplace, being highly collaborative and making sure every team has the information they need.

In third place at 21%, the Road Warrior favours modern workplace tools through flexibility in their work environment while still developing and maintaining connections virtually or in person.

At second last, the Problem Solver is fixated on saving time and most likely to favour the adoption of AI tools.

In last place, the Expressionist prefers less formal communication methods and has a strong preference for visuals to express who they are and to ensure their message is received as intended.

Alongside the personality check-in, the survey revealed a growing concern about the adoption of AI in the workplace. According to the findings, 29% of Australian employees are already using AI in the workplace, a figure 3% higher than the global average. Furthermore, 58% of workers expect to use AI in the future, and nearly a third (31%) believe their company will adopt AI at some point.

Despite this, a significant 73% of workers feel employers are not doing enough to mitigate their concerns about AI. Globally, 80% of workers express some level of worry about AI.

"Slack’s Workplace Personas Research shows whether you have five or 5,000 employees within your business, every workplace has an entire ecosystem of personalities, working styles and skill sets. No two employees are alike," Derek Laney, APAC Technology Evangelist at Slack, said. "Diverse teams are productive teams and you need a platform that enables a range of different styles of work to be successful."

Laney also addressed the concerns about AI. "Our data shows AI is increasingly being adopted in the workplace, however teams are worried about data security and AI’s accuracy. Closing this adoption gap and addressing worries is imperative so that employees are less likely to feel overwhelmed by technology and more likely to feel productive and energised in the workplace," he added.
