Australian retailers anticipate $70bn Christmas sales boost, e-commerce traffic soars

Australian retailers are expecting a near AUD$70bn sales increase during the six-week Christmas peak season, marking a 2.7% rise from last year, according to the Australian Retailers Association (ARA). E-commerce Domain Name System (DNS) traffic in Australia has been on a steady incline since October, with a significant surge in mid-November.

Daily traffic for e-commerce sites peaked on Sunday, November 24, showing a 5% increase. This was closely followed by Tuesday, November 19, with a 6% increase compared to the previous week. DNS traffic for the week of November 18-24 was 6% higher than the previous week.

Internet traffic in Australia has been on the rise throughout November, reaching a yearly peak on November 21, 2024, with 4% more traffic than the previous week, closely followed by November 22. Weekly traffic during November 11-17 was up by 4% compared to the prior week, and traffic during November 18-24 increased by 2% compared to the week before.
