AI jobs upstart Hatch looks for first CMO following $7m seed funding

AI jobs marketplace upstart, Hatch, is on the hunt for its first chief marketing officer to be part of scale-up efforts.

The CMO role reports directly to co-founder and CEO, Adam Jacobs, who was a co-founder of The Iconic, and is based out of Sydney. The newly created role plans come four months after Hatch secured $7 million in seed funding led by early stage investor, Rampersand, with several other supporters including Alberts Impact Ventures, Aura Ventures, Jelix Ventures and former Australia Post boss, Ahmed Fahour.

In its jobs post, the company said it was looking for an executive with a proven track record in scale-ups, who is motivated to build a disruptive and loved brand, and a smart, sustainable candidate growth model.

On the remit are creating and overseeing the marketing strategy to rapidly grow both candidates and employers, crafting the brand positioning based on ambitions to redefine the jobs category with an emphasis on gen Z audience, developing the marketing mix, overseeing a six-strong marketing function, partnering with sales on B2B initiatives, and collaborating with product, engineering and sales to ensure alignment of marketing against group-wide OKRs.

On the wishlist of skills and experience are also direct channel experience including SEO, community marketing, social, content marketing, CRM/lifecycle, brand, or paid performance, brand strategy and brand marketing campaigns and a stint in B2C marketing at a tech product company. However the group said it's open to providing a step up to a senior marketer looking for their role functional lead role.

Hatch was founded in 2017 by Jacobs alongside Zip co-founder, Chaz Heitner, and officially launched in 2020. The company claims to have been growing at 20 per cent month-on-month for the last two years and has a specific emphasis on an AI-powered jobs model to support gen Y/Z employees. It has 150,000 candidates and 120 Australian companies on its books.

The latest funding injection has been earmarked for product enhancements, geographic and user growth, plus building out the Hatch team.

"Hatch has expanded and is now the go-to jobs marketplace for Gen Z in Sydney. It has become the home of the best roles for people in the first 10 years of their careers. Through modern AI matching technology and a totally re-imagined profile and search experience, we're changing the way that people discover work," said Jacobs in February.
