Powerhouse opens applications for 2024 residency and associates programs for creative, tech and science sectors

The Powerhouse has opened applications for its 2024 Residency and Associates Programs. Now in their sixth year, the programs provide support and investment into organisations and individuals from the creative industries, science, and technology sectors.

The Residency Program offers NSW-based practitioners and organisations subsidised workspaces at Powerhouse Ultimo. The program supports practitioners across all stages of their careers, with the current cohort of 20 residents including internationally acclaimed fashion duo Romance Was Born, independent youth radio station, FBi Radio, sustainable fashion designer Iordanes Spyridon Gogos, and artist, writer and researcher Cat Jones.

Powerhouse Chief Executive Lisa Havilah said, "Since its inception the Powerhouse has been intrinsically connected to community and industry, supporting the development of industry and individual practice. I am looking forward to collaborating with new Residents and Powerhouse Associates joining the Powerhouse community."

Eardrum Founder Ralph van Dijk, a current resident, spoke of the enriching experience of the program. "The rich, creative culture and immersion into the Powerhouse environment has offered us the chance to innovate, push the boundaries and further explore the unlimited creative possibilities in audio," the agency leader said.

The Associates Program, on the other hand, enables practitioners to enrich their practice through collaboration across the Powerhouse. Selected Associates will be in residence over a 12-month period to develop and deliver a program or project that contributes to the renewal of the Powerhouse. They will also have the opportunity to identify the focus of their program across Powerhouse sites including Parramatta, Ultimo, Castle Hill and the Sydney Observatory.

"Having a dedicated space to make work and being a part of this community, with access to the Powerhouse Museum’s collections and exhibitions, is incredibly enriching and exciting," said multidisciplinary artist Nell, reflecting on her experience as a Powerhouse Associate.

Expressions of Interest for the 2024 Powerhouse Residency Program and the 2024 Powerhouse Associates Program are open until 15 March 2024.
