6PR radio station restructures as Perth's ad market drops 16% in 5 years
Perth-based radio station 6PR is making strategic changes to its programming and has cut several of its DJs in response to a challenging advertising market, which has declined 16% over the past five years.
Rising costs have further strained the station's financial performance, said Tom Malone, Managing Director - Radio at Nine.
Programming changes include new time slots for 'Breakfast with Millsy and Karl', 'Mornings with Gary Adshead', 'Drive with Oli Peterson', 'Wide World of Sports', and 'Money News'. The station will no longer feature Julie-Anne Sprague or Tod Johnston. The new programming will take effect from the upcoming Monday.
"This is a sad and tough day for the Afternoon and Nights teams along with our listeners, and we deeply appreciate their contributions to 6PR," said Malone.
6PR is also reinvesting in its Direct Sales capability to increase revenue, combining cost reductions with efforts to strengthen its future, Malone added.
The station said the aim is to return to profitability over the next 12 months while maintaining the quality of its content.
