Australian Open adventure on Roblox secures 14.5 million visits, expands in 2024
The Australian Open's virtual experience on Roblox, AO Adventure, has garnered over 14.5 million visits since its debut at AO 2023, the tennis body has revealed.
The metaverse platform, which boasts over 70 million daily active users, is being expanded for AO 2024 with the inclusion of ESPN Super Set Showdown and WimbleWorld x US Open Cross-Court Challenge.
AO Adventure allows users to delve into the world of the Australian Open, complete activities, and earn digital items and accessories. The upcoming ESPN Super Set Showdown will feature tennis courts where users can play tennis with simulated commentary from ESPN’s humanoids, Ace and Courtney. Users can also complete challenges to collect a koala shoulder pet or kangaroo pouch wearable for their avatar.
"The ongoing success and growth of AO Adventure on Roblox continues to provide the Australian Open with the opportunity to reach new audiences and global markets, 24/7, 365 days a year, via one of most popular immersive platforms in the world," Tennis Australia Senior Manager Digital Sales and Metaverse, Ridley Plummer, said.
The collaboration with ESPN also received positive remarks from ESPN Head of International Marketing, Brian Iglesias.
"The collaboration with Tennis Australia is a great opportunity for ESPN to engage with new audiences around the world. By combining Tennis Australia's expertise in sport with ESPN’s global reach, AO Adventure and ESPN Super Set Showdown promises to offer an engaging and immersive experience," he said.
The Wimble World x US Open Cross-Court Challenge will allow users to portal between AO Adventure, Wimble World and US Open - Champions of the Court, and complete challenges to earn a Cross-Court Aura for their avatar.
There's also AO Ballpark presented by Emirates in line with the onsite offering, which will feature a Sky-High Obby challenge and a Dunlop Tennis Ball Rain mini-game.
Tennis Australia Chief Commercial Officer, Cedric Cornelis, echoed the sentiments of innovation and engagement.
"We believe in the power of tennis to unite and inspire. By offering a range of engaging experiences, both on and off the court, we aim to create a lasting impact and ensure that the AO remains a beacon of creativity and innovation in the sporting world," he said.
In 2023, ESPN extended its partnership with Tennis Australia, a relationship that dates back to 1984, with a focus on innovation and storytelling. AO Adventure is available on Roblox today.
