Bendigo Bank prepares customers for digital banking future in new initiative

Bendigo Bank is extending its partnership with the Good Things Foundation to provide increased support to customers grappling with the digital divide.

Over 50 branches across the bank's network will collaborate with local training organisations to educate customers and non-customers alike on confidently using their digital devices. This initiative is a response to the growing popularity of digital banking, the Federal Government's decision to phase out cheques, and the declining use of cash.

The partnership aims to assist those who wish to learn more about online transactions, using the Bendigo Bank app, and maintaining online safety. Reportedly, one in four Australians lack the essential skills needed to fully participate in the digital world. Bendigo Bank's Toowoomba and Community Bank Logan Village branches have already partnered with iConnect Digital, a Queensland-focused digital training provider, through the Good Things Foundation partnership.

"With cash becoming less prevalent, the Federal Government's decision to phase out cheques and the growing popularity of digital banking - it's imperative we bring everyone with us on this digital journey," said Bendigo Bank Chief Customer Officer of Consumer Banking, Richard Fennell. "At Bendigo Bank, we want our customers to feel confident to use any form of banking available to them, no matter their age, or where they are from."

Good Things Foundation Australia CEO, Jessica Wilson, said: "Yet, one in four Australians don't have the essential skills they need to fully participate in today's digital world."

The bank's renewed partnership with the Good Things Foundation is in addition to the successful Banking Safely Online sessions it has been running. The face-to-face digital literacy education program has delivered 110 Banking Safely Online Sessions across the country in just four months, with nearly 100 sessions planned for the coming months.

Derek Tink, Leader of the iConnect Digital training initiative, said: "Bendigo Bank's dedication to inclusion, community empowerment, and online safety is truly inspiring. Understanding community needs is at the heart of everything they do."
