Snowflake customers targeted in cyber threat surge, says intelligence service
The Australian Signals Directorate's (ASD) Australian Cyber Security Centre has reported a rise in cyber threat activity targeting customers of Snowflake, the cloud-based data platform. Several companies using Snowflake environments have reportedly been compromised.
The ASD's Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) has advised Australian organisations using Snowflake to take immediate action to secure their accounts. This includes resetting credentials for active accounts, disabling non-active accounts, enabling Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and reviewing user activity for any anomalies.
Snowflake has also issued an advisory to assist customers in identifying instances of unauthorised access. The ASD's ACSC is closely monitoring the situation and is available to provide assistance and advice as required.
This surge in cyber threat activity underscores the importance of robust security measures for businesses operating in the digital sphere. With cyber threats on the rise, it is crucial for organisations to take proactive steps to safeguard their data and systems.
While the ASD's ACSC and Snowflake are working to mitigate the impact of these threats, the responsibility also lies with organisations to ensure their security measures are up to date and effective. This includes regular reviews of user activity, enabling MFA, and maintaining a culture of security awareness within the organisation.
