Intrepid Travel seeks new CMO to drive ambitious global strategy
Intrepid Travel, a certified B Corp and a global leader in sustainable, experience-rich travel, is on the hunt for a new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). The role, which can be based in either Melbourne or London, was created following the departure of former Chief Customer Officer, Leigh Barnes, who has accepted the role of President of the Americas.
The new CMO will be tasked with leading and driving commercial strategies across brand, product, marketing, and PR, with the aim of delivering customer experience and sales on a global scale. This move comes as part of Intrepid's ambitious 2030 strategy, which aims to double the company's size over the next five years to $1.3bn in revenue and 600,000 customers. The incoming CMO will play a critical role in driving this strategy forward and realising the company's goals.
Intrepid Travel has a strong track record of success, having delivered its best financial and impact results in its history in 2023. The company posted a net profit of $21.8 million, a significant turnaround from 2022, while also contributing a record $4.6 million to charitable and community causes.
The C-suite role comes with extensive global travel and a range of benefits, including a free of charge (FOC) trip every year, five additional days of leave, and a flexible working offering, including the option to work four weeks a year from anywhere.
Intrepid Travel has been a world leader in responsible travel for 35 years, with more than 900 trips designed to truly experience local culture. The company became B-Corp certified in 2018 and is the first tour operator with near-term science-based climate targets through the Science Based Targets Initiative.
The Intrepid Foundation, its not-for-profit arm, has raised more than $16 million for over 160 partners. Leigh Barnes, the former Chief Customer Officer, is relocating to the Pacific Northwest from early 2025 to lead Intrepid's ambitious expansion in the US, which is a key part of its 2030 strategy.
Barnes was previously responsible for leading Intrepid's global marketing, CX and digital functions with a focus on embedding a customer-focused culture across the business. His relocation to the US signifies the company's commitment to its ambitious growth strategy and its focus on the American market.
