David Beckham launches studio and creative agency

By Paul McIntyre - Executive Editor

Former footballer David Beckham has launched a studio and creative agency operating out of London and with offices in LA to follow (Variety).

Key points

  • Studio 99 will make TV shows and documentaries and work with brands to create content
  • Creative agency to create and deliver across traditional, digital and social media and create all content for Beckham’s social media channels (audience ~100m)
  • Signed a development deal with LeBron James’s Uninterrupted media company to create documentary charting launch of Inter Miami football team, co-owned by Beckham

Beckham continues to elevate the influencer model to new heights and the 2020 launch of his football team will present both he and brands with some major opportunities. Beckham’s managing to leverage Inter Miami before it even plays a competitive game by making a documentary about its creation, simultaneously driving demand, awareness and fans (who may pay hundreds or thousands of dollars each year for a season ticket).

Meanwhile, his agency can take a piece of any associated advertiser action while creating all the content Beckham needs to feed his brand machine. Beckham is worth an estimated $450m. Not bad for a guy who kicked a ball about for a living – but then Beckham has always understood the power of branding, media and making the most of talent.
