SIGGRAPH Asia 2023: unleashing the power of AI and computer animation in Sydney

The annual conference and trade exhibition, SIGGRAPH Asia 2023, has officially opened its doors in Sydney, Australia. The four-day event, known for its focus on computer graphics and interactive techniques, is hosting over 30 exhibitors from 11 countries and regions. The event is a showcase of the latest in hardware systems, software tools, and creative services in computer graphics, digital art, animation, visual effects, new realities, artificial intelligence and research.

Industry leaders such as Adobe, Animal Logic, Canva, FORUM8, Foundry, Fox Renderfarm, Gigabyte, IO Industries, ILM, Meta, MSI, Pixar RenderMan, Qualisys AB, Ritsumeikan University, Wētā FX, and others are presenting their latest innovations. The conference, led by June Kim, includes 17 highly technical and critical programs.

Keynote speakers include Joe Letteri, a five-time Academy Award Winner and Senior Visual Effects Supervisor at Wētā FX, and Jun Murai, a distinguished Professor at Keio University and 'The Father of Internet in Japan'. Other featured speakers include Rob Bredow from Industrial Light & Magic, Paul Debevec from Eyeline Studios by Netflix, Christophe Hery from META, Rob Coleman from Industrial Light & Magic, Raqi Syed from Victoria University of Wellington, and Sabine Laimer and Robin Hollander from Wētā FX.

Exhibitor talks will delve into topics such as machine learning in VFX pipelines, AI in design, the VFX of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, and the impact of AI in visual effects. The conference also provides a platform for students and emerging professionals to have their resumes and reels reviewed by global industry experts.
