Similarweb stats show Threads surpasses X in daily mobile users
Mark Zuckerberg Twitter clone, Threads, launched in response to Elon Musk's purchase of the microblogging platform has scored a significant win having overtaken X in daily mobile users.
In the week of Sept 15-21, 2025, Threads averaged 130.2m daily mobile users vs 130.1m for X, as per Similarweb data reported last week.
X is still larger overall, and it dominates on the desktop, where Threads barely registers, leading by 145 million average daily users to just under seven million, respectively.
In terms of monthly average users Threads now runs to more than 350 million, according to disclosures in Meta's recent earnings call. X claims to have over 550 million MAUs, although neither figure is audited by an external provider.
Threads launched on July 5, 2023. Elon Musk bought Twitter in late 2022 changing the name to X, although Twitter itself was launched in July 2006.
