News Corp Australia unveils 'The Mushroom Cook' podcast investigative series

News Corp Australia has launched a new podcast, video and editorial series titled 'The Mushroom Cook'. The series, led by the Herald Sun’s investigative news team and spearheaded by journalist Brooke Grebert-Craig, follows the police investigation into a family lunch in a rural Victorian town that resulted in the deaths of three people.

The series delves into the past of Erin Patterson, the woman who cooked the meal and is now standing trial for murder. The podcast will be supported by comprehensive editorial coverage, including interactive digital features and videos across the Herald Sun, The Daily Telegraph, The Courier-Mail and The Advertiser.

"This story has gripped not only Australia but people all around the world. Since this story broke our team has worked tirelessly to uncover every angle of the police investigation including the accused's online history and digital footprint, her life on remand in a women's maximum security prison and the effects of death cap mushrooms," said Herald Sun Editor Sam Weir. " Our journalists bring you the details of the alleged victims, the survivors and those working behind the scenes on Australia's most high-profile murder case. The Mushroom Cook podcast is not to be missed."

Subscribers of News Corp Australia’s state mastheads will have exclusive first access to episodes of 'The Mushroom Cook' as they are released each week. The first episode releases today and then every Sunday from March 31. Subscribers to CrimeX+ on Apple podcasts will have access to episodes one week later, before being released for free.

"The team behind this podcast have worked hard to report on this case with the sensitivity, compassion and rigour such a tragedy deserves. As journalists, they were among the first in the world to report on these deaths and have followed the fall-out ever since," said NewsCast Editorial Director, Audio Dan Box. "It is that direct local knowledge that has made the series what it is today. While it is ultimately up to the jury to determine what happened, our team's approach to this series is in the finest tradition of news reporting and I am proud to have worked with them."

'The Mushroom Cook' is being released under News Corp Australia’s True Crime Australia umbrella, further solidifying the company's commitment to delivering high-quality investigative journalism.
