Australia for UNHCR launches 'Flavours of Hope' cookbook to aid refugees
Australia for UNHCR has launched an online cookbook, 'Flavours of Hope', to raise funds for the UN Refugee Agency.
The cookbook, which features recipes and stories from ten individuals including current and former refugees, coincides with World Refugee Day on 20 June 2024.
Australia for UNHCR CEO, Trudi Mitchell, and Boost Juice founder, Janine Allis, are involved in the project, with Allis making a donation every time someone downloads the book. The funds raised will be used for UNHCR's work in aiding people fleeing conflict, disaster, and persecution worldwide.
Contributors to the cookbook include former AFLW player and Australia for UNHCR Ambassador Akec Makur Chuot, Melbourne restaurant owner Hamed Allahyari, and Captain of the Afghan women's football team, Fatima Yousufi. The cookbook is available for free download via the Australia for UNHCR website.
"Although our contributors have survived extremely difficult experiences, they have not lost the urge to share what they have with others - in this case, their stories, their culture and their food," said Australia for UNHCR CEO, Trudi Mitchell. "I encourage everyone to download the free book via our website to experience these amazing recipes and help support the cause."
"Afghan food has a very special taste. The flavours are so unique and whenever those smells hit my nose, it takes me straight back to my childhood," said Fatima Yousufi, Captain of the Afghan women's football team. "Eating Afghan food in Australia has allowed me to feel much more alive and connected."
