A million Aussies watch films over Easter weekend: Val Morgan Cinema
Family films drove more than a million admissions to the country’s cinemas over the Easter weekend, the biggest result so far in 2022.
What you need to know:
- The Easter weekend was the biggest for cinema in 2022 so far, Val Morgan Cinema’s Guy Burbidge said.
- The Lost City topped the list for most popular.
More than a million Australians have flocked to cinemas, driving the strongest weekend for admissions so far – almost a third higher than Easter last year.
Val Morgan Cinema said The Lost City, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore and The Bad Guys were the top films watched.
There were 1.05m people in cinemas from Thursday to Sunday, the biggest weekend since 30 December 2021.
“This result is no surprise. The incredible line-up of top-quality content over Easter shows that cinema is continuing its return-to-growth story in 2022,” Val Morgan Cinema managing director Guy Burbidge said.
“It only promises to get better from here as some of the best titles land on the big screen, including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Top Gun: Maverick, and Jurassic World Dominion."
