GenAI and 'information hyperinflation': Australian organisations grapple with data security

Recent research from Intelligent Business Research Services (IBRS) has revealed that the rapid growth in data and the adoption of Generative AI (GenAI) are challenging Australian organisations' ability to maintain effective security and privacy measures.

The study, sponsored by EncompaaS, refers to this phenomenon as 'information hyperinflation'. It found that while AI integration is seen as a risk, AI empowered solutions, particularly content cognition, could improve compliance, privacy, and security regulations, as well as data protection.

Key findings from the study include: 49% of information management professionals find meeting privacy, security, and compliance requirements a significant challenge, however, only 28% were confident in managing the increasing volume of new information. While 25% believe AI will significantly impact their jobs, 29% are considering or experimenting with AI-empowered information management tools.

Dr. Joseph Sweeney, Global Research Director at IBRS, said: “In this study, information management professionals indicate that new approaches are needed to deal with the sheer scale of the data problem as they strive to ensure compliance.”

CEO of EncompaaS, Jesse Todd, said: “This comprehensive study reveals a path for information management professionals to address the growing challenges of information overload by embracing the transformative potential of AI technologies.”

EncompaaS is a global leader in information management, helping highly regulated enterprises rapidly mitigate compliance and privacy risks while unlocking the full potential of their data.

The research is based on a survey and supplementary interviews of 381 senior information and technology specialists in Australia.
