Agave spirit born,
In Queensland's sun, a new dawn,
Act of Treason sworn.
Australia's newest agave spirit brand, Act of Treason, stirs the market
Top Shelf International has launched Australia's newest agave spirit brand, Act of Treason. The spirit is produced at a dedicated agave spirit farm and distillery in Queensland’s Whitsundays. The inaugural product, First Harvest Blanco, marks the arrival of Australian coastal agave.
Act of Treason is made from more than 600,000 Agave tequilana plants, the same species used in tequila production. The farm and distillery are located between Airlie Beach and Bowen in Queensland’s Whitsundays region, 20 degrees south of the equator, mirroring Tequila’s home in Mexico. The distillery and production facility are powered by renewable energy.
The brand is positioned as an investment in craftsmanship, not a celebrity-driven, mass-produced brand. The farm-to-bottle operation includes growing, cooking, distilling, and bottling 100% Agave tequilana (Blue Weber) at the Eden Lassie spirit farm and distillery. The distillery features innovative elements such as upcycled shipping containers, spectral drone technology, geo-tagged plants, energy-saving sub cooler, a custom-designed ultra-small batch still, gravity-fed water preservation, double copper pot distillation, and a repurposed basket press.
Act of Treason has a distinct profile, with a backbone of cooked agave layered with notes of lime, fresh cut grass and tropical fruits. The spirit has already won a Gold Medal and Trophy for Alternative Spirit Of The Year at the Australian Distilled Spirit Awards in mid-2023.
