Sacha Coady out at Crown Resorts amidst sweeping redundancies

Crown Resort's Group GM of Brand Strategy and Insights, Sacha Coady, has been made redundant as broad redundancies flagged by Crown Resorts chief executive Ciaran Carruthers in April come into effect.

As reported by the Sydney Morning Herald and the AFR, Carruthers confirmed that up to 1000 roles would be cut as part of a major restructure attributed to a lack of customers at Crown's Melbourne, Sydney and Perth casinos due to stricter regulations and the impacts of the cost-of-living crisis.

Cody joined the hospitality group a year ago from marketing advisory Forethought. He took to LinkedIn over the weekend to confirm his redundancy.

"Many people at Crown and outside of Crown have become dear friends that I will stay in touch with. The work we did and have in motion is fabulous, necessary, and best-in-class," he said.

It comes amidst change at the helm of the business, with Crown Resorts last week announcing John Borghetti as its new chair. Starting 1 July Borghetti will take over from William McBeath, who first stepped into the role in mid 2022 after Crown Resorts was acquired by Blackstone. Borghetti has been Chair of Crown Sydney since the takeover.

McBeath will remain in the business as an independent non-executive director. “Mr Borghetti is a very highly regarded director and executive whose extensive operational, leadership and governance experience will ensure Crown continues to focus on safe and responsible operations whilst growing and enhancing its entertainment experiences for guests of Crown,” he said.

Borghetti, who has previously served as a Director for Brisbane Airport Corporation, Alinta Energy, Coca-Cola Amatil, Energy Australia, and the Art Gallery of New South Wale, said the Board's priority would remain on "on compliant, safe, and profitable operations while ensuring we position the business for future growth".

Earlier this year Crown Resorts welcomed former Coles Liquor and Reece CMO, Yolanda Uys, as its new group EGM of brand and marketing. Uys took over from former Domino's CMO, Adam Ballesty, who was brought in by Crown in early 2023 to execute a rebrand.
