GroupM has hired Cameron King as its first chief technology & transformation officer.

King will lead strategy on digital, technology, and data with functional oversight of GroupM’s  technology businesses Xaxis, Plista and Finecast, and data platforms including [m]Platform. He will also provide consultancy services to clients on digital transformation, organisational change management and business optimisation.

King most recently served as managing director of digital revenue at News Corp and spent a decade with the publisher. He also served as chairman of the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) Australia board until January.

GroupM ANZ CEO, Mark Lollback said King is “one of the smartest digital operators in Australia” and that the newly created position marks a “gear change” in GroupM's drive to deliver digital, technology and data solutions.

“Cam is passionate about measurement standards and transparency, digital transformation and marketing automation,” said Lollback. “His values align perfectly with ours at GroupM and we are excited to welcome him into the group to enhance our digital and tech offering to provide our clients with even more firepower to navigate the growing complexity they face in media and marketing and drive business growth.”

King will work alongside GroupM agencies MediaCom, Wavemaker, Mindshare and Essence and sit on the GroupM Leadership team.

“Starting the next phase of my career at GroupM, the world’s largest media investment company, and an organisation dedicated to combining the power of media, digital, technology and data to drive client growth is an exciting prospect,” said King.

“Clients want business partners that can help them navigate the complex media and technology ecosystem and provide consultancy services on digital transformation all the way through from strategy to implementation and delivery. I’m looking forward to getting started and working with GroupM agencies to deliver that.”
