Uber celebrates Mardi Gras with G Flip, offered free rides to parade

Ride-hailing giant Uber partnered with Australian drummer, singer, songwriter, and producer G Flip in a new activation for Mardi Gras.

The collaboration offered festival-goers the chance to share an Uber Pool ride with the global superstar to the event, adding a touch of star power to their journey.

In addition to the celebrity ride-sharing experience, Uber offered free Pool rides to and from festival locations on March 2, 2024, between 12 pm and 10 pm. This service, which matches riders from the same area heading in the same direction to share the cost of the ride, will provide a convenient and cost-effective transportation option for those attending the festivities.

For every festival-goer that takes an Uber Pool trip with G Flip on March 2, Uber is making a donation to Minus18, a group supporting the rights of young LGBTQI+ Australians. This move aligns with the spirit of Mardi Gras, promoting inclusivity and support for the LGBTQI+ community.

G Flip, who identifies as a queer, non-binary artist, was riding around Sydney in an Uber vehicle decorated with rainbow colours, offering a pre-Mardi Gras party experience. To have a chance to ride with G Flip, individuals needed to register their interest and explain why they’d love to be part of G Flip’s pride ride.

G Flip said: “I’m so stoked to be back in Australia for Mardi Gras! It’s one of my favourite days of the year. I'm going to be hopping in a few Uber Pool rides on the day of the parade so stay safe, book an Uber and hopefully we can hang out for a cheeky little ride! Happy Mardi Gras beautiful humans!”

Minus18 is an Australian organisation for LGBTI youth, working to combat homophobia and transphobia through events, support, training, and campaigns. The donation from Uber will contribute to their ongoing efforts to create a safer, more inclusive Australia.
