Forrester predicts big take up of Microsoft 365 Copilot next year, as Gen AI takes hold
A recent report by Forrester predicts that Microsoft 365 Copilot, a conversational tool designed to enhance productivity and collaboration, will be adopted by nearly 6.9 million US knowledge workers, or 8% of the workforce, by the end of 2024.
This tool, which brings generative AI (genAI) to knowledge workers from within commonly used programs like Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams, is being touted as a potential game-changer in the workplace.
However, the adoption of Copilot is not without its challenges says the analyst. Companies will need to convince their CFO of its business case and identify the benefits, costs, and risks of implementing it. This could prove to be a significant hurdle, given the mixed feelings towards genAI tools.
According to other recent Forrester research, 46% of US online adults feel genAI tools pose a serious threat to society. Additionally, 40% feel like they are cheating when they use genAI tools. Despite these concerns, there is also a significant interest in genAI integration, with 30% of respondents expressing a desire to see more of their favourite apps integrate genAI features. Furthermore, 28% believe that genAI tools will make them more productive at their job.
The data presents a complex picture of the future of genAI tools like Microsoft 365 Copilot. On one hand, there is a clear demand for tools that can enhance productivity and collaboration. On the other hand, there is a significant amount of apprehension and distrust towards these tools.
