Deadline extended for Optus Outage Post-Incident Review report

The Australian Government has extended the deadline for the final report of the Optus Outage Post-Incident Review to 21 March 2024.

The extension follows the receipt of new information from Optus regarding network wilting, a process where signals from mobile towers are powered down to allow Triple Zero calls to be carried by other networks, particularly 3G signals. The final report was initially due by the end of February 2024.

The review was initiated by Minister for Communications, the Hon Michelle Rowland MP, following a national whole-of-network outage on 8 November 2023. It aims to help the telecommunications industry improve outage-related processes and identify other improvements for Government and regulators to consider.

The Government will consider the final report upon its receipt on 21 March and will make it public in due course after this date. More information on the Optus Outage Post-Incident Review, including the Terms of Reference, can be found on the official government website.
