X CEO annoyed that advertisers exercise their free speech by ignoring X
X says it has launched a class action against the Global Alliance for Responsible Media, claiming it organised what X CEO Linda Yaccarino claimed was a systematic illegal boycott against the social media platform. In a tweet this morning, she said she was shocked by the evidence uncovered by the US House Judiciary Committee.
For context, it's the same committee where the Head of GroupM said ads were restricted from mainstream news sites due to brand safety concerns, somewhat diluting X's argument that it is being singled out.
And it is also the same committee that has been accused of pushing the false narratives about the current US President taking bribes from Ukraine, and whose witnesses keep getting exposed as foreign agents.
According to Yaccarino in a video posted to X, "Today we filed an antitrust lawsuit against the Global Alliance for responsible media, four of its key members, and the World Federation of Advertisers. These organizations targeted our company and you are users."
Saying "the evidence and facts are on our side," while not actually providing any evidence or facts to back her assertions, she added, "They conspired to boycott x, which threatens our ability to thrive in the future that puts your global Town Square the one place that you can express yourself freely and openly at long term risk."
Yaccarino said, "People are hurt when the marketplace of ideas is constricted. No small group of people should be able to monopolize what gets monetized," She said she joined X "because I believe in the power of the global Town Square."
"You deserve an open platform where your views can be expressed without restriction and without fear," she said.
