More exits at Seven as Melbourne news director steps down

More change is underway at Seven Network, with Shaun Menegola to depart the media company after five years at the helm of Seven Melbourne's news division.

Menegola is stepping down from the role for personal reasons, with his departure date yet to be finalised. He will remain in the role for a transition period, with a successor due to be announced "in due course", according to the network.

"I have decided to call an end to my time here at 7NEWS in Melbourne. It's entirely my decision and one I've been thinking about for a long time. It's not one driven by anything else other than the fact that I'm looking to take a break to recharge and reboot - and to spend some time in my home state with family," said Menegola. "I couldn't be prouder of what this team has achieved over the last five or so years, and of the bulletins we turn out every night. It's been a highlight of almost three decades running news bulletins and newsrooms."

Seven West Media's (SWM) newly appointed Director of News and Public Affairs and Editor-in-Chief, Anthony De Ceglie, said: "Shaun has made a remarkable contribution to Seven Melbourne and, before that, Seven Perth over many years and he will be greatly missed. He has been a driving force behind the success of 7NEWS Melbourne over the past five years and will leave a great legacy."

De Ceglie, formerly editor-in-chief of SWM's West Australian mast heads, including the The West Australian, The Sunday Times, and Perth Now, stepped into his new role on Tuesday. He replaces Craig McPherson, who left the business in the wake of multiple controversies surrounding the network's editorial conduct.

Last month also saw the fast-tracked departure of former CEO James Warburton, who was replaced by his successor Jeff Howard months ahead of plan.
