ACMA awards five-year community radio licence to MILCAR in Millicent
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has granted a five-year community radio broadcasting licence to Millicent Community Access Radio (MILCAR) in the Millicent region of South Australia.
The ACMA opened applications for the Millicent community broadcasting licence, which utilises the 107.7 FM frequency, in December 2023. MILCAR, which has been operating the 5THE FM service on a temporary licence since June 2023, was the sole applicant for the five-year licence.
"Community radio provides an important platform for local voices and issues. Over the last ten months MILCAR has demonstrated that it is committed to the Millicent community and is providing local programming on the 5THE FM service," said Creina Chapman, an ACMA member.
MILCAR has committed to building a sustainable on-air service with robust governance structures. The organisation currently boasts a healthy membership base and aims to increase volunteer participation at the station.
"We look forward to MILCAR delivering on the ambitions set out in its application for more local content and community participation in the 5THE FM service," Chapman said.
ACMA expects MILCAR to deliver on its ambitions for more local content and community participation in the 5THE FM service.
