AANA and Ad Standards merge in a bid to 'reduce unnecessary cost'
The AANA and Ad Standards Board have announced the two will merge as part of new cost-saving measures between the two.
Ad Standards also confirmed that it has appointed Richard Bean as an interim Independent Director for Complaints Handling, to supervise the work of Ad Standards’ community panel and industry jury, after its former CEO left in June.
The Chair of the AANA, Martin Brown, said the AANA had a very positive response from stakeholders to its latest moves to strengthen the self-regulatory system.
“Richard’s interim appointment has been widely welcomed, so too has our move to reduce unnecessary cost and complexity in the self-regulatory system, particularly given the impact of COVID-19 on advertising spend. I am pleased to say that all relevant industry stakeholders have indicated their determination to help maintain an appropriately funded system of self-regulation,” Brown says.
Since leaving the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA", Richard has consulted to advertising and infrastructure businesses, co-led the Commonwealth Government’s efficiency review of the ABC and SBS and, most recently, worked as interim CEO at the NSW Environment Protection Authority.
