Tabcorp strikes AI deal to spot problem gambling
Tabcorp has struck a deal with Mindway AI in a bid to spot signs of problem gambling and take pre-emptive measures. Customer chief Jenni Barnett indicated it's part of the plan to take a much bigger slice of the online gambling market while minimising customer risk.
Tabcorp will use AI to intercept problem gamblers on its digital platforms. The firm has struck a deal with Mindway AI, which specialises in identify at-risk gambling with Chief Customer Officer Jenni Barnett backing the tech to help the firm take preventative measures.
But she said the firm will not take "a set and forget" approach while new analytics chief Amy Shi-Nash said the firms own data and analytics will remain fundamental.
“Our technology and capability upgrades will allow us to more easily identify changes in customer behaviour and incept those customers before gambling becomes a problem," said Shi-Nash, a former data science and analytics exec at NAB, HSBC and Commbank. “We’re excited about the potential."
Barnett, a former Telstra digital lead, now tasked with making Tabcorp digitally competitive after losing ground to more nimble rivals, said the firm is aiming for a 30 per cent digital share of Australia's multibillion online wagering market by 2025. "But it won’t be at the expense of customer care," she said, "and our partnership with Mindway AI is another example of that”.
